DTI provides noise and vibration damping systems for the aerospace industry. As a chemist working for DTI you will be formulating, developing, and coating thin film viscoelastic materials (VEMs). You will be improving existing formulations or developing new ones to meet the needs of the customer’s specifications. You will interact with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure the new or existing formula is robust, profitable, and commercialized.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Product development efforts, including team collaboration and product qualification
  • Manage projects from initial trials up through production commercialization
  • This is a hands-on role, for a senior professional, ideally with the ability to perform necessary laboratory and application tests to evaluate samples and develop new materials
  • Mixing and coating experimental films on pilot coater for evaluation
  • Mixing rubber formulas with a sigma mixer and testing for performance enhancements
  • Providing feedback on project status on issues observed during development stages
  • Analyzing results of formula modifications to ensure the specification is met
  • Troubleshoot problems to identify root causes and provide remedial solutions
  • Maintain accurate records and write scientific reports as needed
  • Support manufacturing and quality control (QC) activities
  • Provide required technical data and information to Sales & Marketing
  • Running and developing testing to measure mechanical properties of experimental materials to meet existing and new specifications
  • Testing the damping properties and interpreting the results to meet existing and new specifications by ASTM E756 or similar tests
  • Measuring the shear properties of VEM and interpreting the results
  • Measuring the fire resistance of new materials by FAR 25.853 Appendix F and ASTM E162 testing

Requirements

  • A strong technical education (B.S or M.S. in Chemistry)
  • This role requires both a HANDS-on ability, and a strong PROJECT MANAGER/Management ability
